Since the first time Radio Bastjanizi FM transmitted, the administration of the radio always tried to give the best variety of programs. These programs included:

• Programs featuring different types of music from both the Maltese and foreign scene
• Band Marches
• Live Transmissions from the activities organized by the different groups in Qormi including the band marches with their unique atmosphere
• Live Transmissions from the Church
• Religious programs including the rosary and the Sunday Mass
• Interviews with different people and groups that have an important or traditional work in Qormi
• Discussion Programs
• Interesting Features
• Interviews with singers from the local scene such as Hooligan.

The aim of the Radio is that of giving a view of the activities taking place in the parish of St. Sebastian to all local residents especially sick and old people that can’t attend these activities.

History

The Radio Station was set up for the feast of Saint Sebastian in the year 2003. It was to transmit for a whole month before the feast in July. From the first meeting held for those who wanted to help, one could notice a lot of enthusiasm from a large group of people. This enthusiasm followed in the transmission weeks, in which all helpers and program presenters made their utmost and built up, one of the best community radio stations on the Maltese Islands. This was because it was a radio station which was professional from all points of view. Through this month, both local people and other people who have listened to the radio said that it was a very good radio station; a project that we must consider to remake in the following years.

After this successful month, the committee consisting of the four groups taking part in the feast of Saint Sebastian thought of continuing this project for the Christmas festives and the Liturgical Feast of St. Sebastian. For this reason the radio re-started transmitting a month before Christmas until the 20^th January; that is the liturgical feast of Saint Sebastian.

Due to the success of the second month it was now time to work to have the first radio station in Qormi transmitting through the whole year. For this reason the committee worked hard to equip the station with all the necessary equipment and necessary material. The radio re-started transmitting on the 1st July 2004. 

Changes for improvement

In making the radio station working for the 2^nd time, the administration felt the need for some necessary improvements. The basic three were:

• Increase in the time of live transmissions. Although the radio station always transmitted 24 hours a day, it only had 9 hours of live transmissions in week days and 15 hours on Sundays. The radio station is now going to transmit about 15 hours each day.
• Introduction of new types of programs. These new programs include:
  • Discussion programs
  • Programs that are presented from two or more persons instead of one.
• Live streaming on the internet. Although the radio station always had its own website, it had no live streaming. This is something that the administration wanted to improve for the 2^nd time of transmission. This was a very important technological step with which other people outside Qormi both inside and outside the Maltese islands especially emigrants can follow the radio station’s programs.

The objectives in transmitting for the 3rd time, now consisted in having a radio station transmitting for the whole year. So most of the improvments accomplished were about buying the necessary hardware and equipment to built up a professional studio. Apart from this some other changes regarding the radio station were also Worked out. The basic changes in re-transmitting for the 3rd time were:

• The necessary equipment was bought to built up a professional studio that can transmit through the whole year.
• Live transmissions increased by 2 hours daily in the weekdays.
• New programs such as a children’s program was introduced in the schedule.
